Here are ten tips for healthier, stronger hair. Have you tried all of them?
1. Balance your diet
A healthy balanced diet is essential for strong hair. Make sure you include foods with zinc, selenium, biotin and healthy fats which all aid hair growth. Protein is also an important component for healthy hair. Lean protein like chicken, fish as well as eggs are beneficial.
2. Improve circulation
A gentle but firm massage of the head once in a while can improve blood circulation to the scalp. Try massaging your head briefly before you finish your shower.
3. Avoid harsh chemicals
Excessive use of harsh chemicals and bleaches weaken the hair shaft and can also irritate the scalp.
4. Add antioxidants
Foods high in antioxidants are also great for your hair. Try adding oranges and berries!
5. Limit hot tools
Overuse of hot styling tools like hairdryers and straightening irons can damage and dry your strands. Try leaving your hair to air dry when possible or apply a hair protectant before styling.
6. Treat your hair
Deep condition your hair once a week and occasionally use a protein mask too. Treatments are easy to make at home.
7. Protect from the sun
The sun can damage your hair too. If you are out in the sun for long periods of time you can save your strands by wearing a hat, using an umbrella or applying a UV protectant hair product.
8. Stop combing wet hair
Avoid combing or brushing your hair when it is wet. Wet hair is more fragile and prone to breakage so make sure it is dry first before brushing away.
9. Indulge in silk
Reduce hair breakage and damage at night by switching to silk pillowcases. Silk creates less friction on your skin and hair strands than cotton.
10. Use oil
Oils nourish and moisturise the hair. If you are not keen on the greasy feeling try just a couple of drops on the ends of your hair for a silky smooth finish. Some of the most popular oils used in hair are olive oil, coconut oil and argan oil.
