With its new CPT (Comfort Pulse Technology), Thermage is more comfortable and with even better efficacy. Dr. Lynn Teo from the dermatology practice answers all your pressing questions about this popular radiofrequency treatment.

How does the Thermage technology work?

Thermage is a safe, non-invasive, radiofrequency (RF) cosmetic procedure that is clinically proven to help smoothen and improve skin for an overall younger looking appearance. The treatment delivers natural looking results with little to no downtime – on all skin types, for the face and body.
Thermage CPT builds on the proven efficacy of the Thermage platform and comes with built in cooling and vibration technology to allow higher energies to be more comfortable on the skin as well as protect the skin further.

What is the difference between Thermage and lasers?

Thermage uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen. Lasers uses a specific beam in a specific wavelength of light. Laser light has a certain maximum depth while RF energy can stimulate deeper collagen more efficiently for a better tightening and lifting effect.

Can Thermage’s heat cause any skin/nerve damage?

If the heat is too high and concentrated in particular areas, then potentially it can hurt the skin with resultant redness or crusts. That is why a good understanding of anatomy and the machine is required for the physician who carries out the procedure.

What kind of results can I expect and how long will it last?

A gradual tightening of the skin, whether on the face, eyelids or body, can be seen within a month and it will reach its peak at six months. This effect may last for up to 12 to 18 months.

Can I combine Thermage with other cosmetic/injectable procedures like Botox?

Definitely. Botox and Fillers are often used after a Thermage session to give immediate improved cosmetic appearance. Ultimately, with the improved appearance of lines and wrinkles with Thermage a few months later, patients will decide that they don’t need injectables at all, or they use less of the injectables to achieve their goals.

Is Thermage suitable for everyone?

Your physician is the best person to assess a patient to determine if they are suitable candidates for this aesthetic treatment. Clinical data would show that our focus age group is ideally between 35 and 55 years of age.
Thermage is not safe for use if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. I would also not recommend Thermage for people with diabetes, patients with pacemakers, hearing implants and metal devices inserted in the body.
