A&B has a chat with Dollei:
1. HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY?
I started working behind cosmetics counters and in the process, I developed the craving to creatively work on faces.
2. WHAT KEEPS YOU GOING?
The constant excitement from different jobs.
3. WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE WHO WANTS A CAREER IN MAKEUP ARTISTRY IN SINGAPORE?
To bear with the long hours and low rates, and learn as much as possible, at the beginning.
4. PLEASE SHARE A MAKEUP MEMORY OF YOURS.
It has to be an orange-red lipstick from Mary Quant, my first lipstick!
5. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE FACIAL FEATURE?
Single eyelids on Asians.
6. WHAT’S YOUR TOP BEAUTY GROUSE? HOW SHOULD LADIES (AND GENTS) RECTIFY THIS BEAUTY BOO-BOO?
My top beauty grouse – foundation shade being different from that of the neck. To determine the right shade, test a few colours close to the neck and leave them there for at least two hours. Check for oxidisation. Lighter foundations or BB creams will only make you look fairer on the face; many times they don’t match your neck colour. You could blend them down but run the risk of staining your clothes.
7. NAME THREE BEAUTY-RELATED BRANDS/PRODUCTS THAT YOU LOVE.
Certain double-eyelid tape and the brush cleanser from Daiso. I also can’t do without the small eyelash curler from Shu Uemura.
8. WHAT’S IN YOUR PERSONAL MAKEUP POUCH NOW?
Laneige BB Cushion, Guerlain The Eyebrow Pencil, Maquillage True Cheek, YSL Top Secrets Re-Plumping Concentrate Lip & Contour Shaper and Bioré Aqua Rich UV Watery Essencesunscreen.
