Hanis Hussey – Her Beauty Queen Tips

The official pageant groomer for Miss Universe Singapore 2013 shares with us her tips to looking like a beauty queen.

1 Keep in shape with a daily exercise regime

– whether it is yoga, pilates or even taking long, brisk walks. If you are short of time, try Power Plate which is a high-speed workout that uses vibrations to accelerate your body’s muscle building and fat burning process in just 25 minutes!

2 On top of daily cleansing, toning and moisturising with skincare products that are suitable for your skin type, invest in some high-end products for better skin improvement and maintenance.

I like Bobbi Brown’s Hydrating Face Cream, Extra Repair Eye Cream, Soothing Cleansing Oil and Night Cream.

3 Eat well-balanced meals that contain a combination of lean protein, fiber and carbohydrates.

If you can, try to detox twice a week by just eating fresh fruits and vegetables. To further enhance your body’s regenerative properties, drink eight glasses of mineral water a day.

4 A good haircut that is modern looking yet versatile can do wonders for your looks.

Regular trims and hair treatments will keep you looking well-groomed.

5 To be a good queen, you need to be well-informed about Singapore’s current affairs.

Get up-to-date information on the activities of Singapore Tourism Board to help you promote our country at the international competition.

6 Learn to speak well

– by rehearsing your speeches privately and watching videos of great speakers like Barack Obama to see how they deliver their messages. You can gain confidence in conversing by being sociable and networking with people at events.

7 Beauty queens command the stage when they strut with poise and confidence in their sky-high heels.

Invest in a pair of four-inch heels and practice, practice, practice! My secret: tape a long masking tape on the floor and stand against the wall with shoulders and head touching it to make your back arch. Then suck in your stomach and walk a straight line, pretending the wall is behind you.

8 You do not need to spend on expensive designer clothes to look good.

Instead, look out for well-made outfits that flatter your best assets – like a figure-hugging dress to accentuate your curves.

9 Good social etiquette can take you far.

Proper table manners, being courteous and most importantly, hone up on your emotional quotient to get you to the top.

10 To carry you through a long day looking fresh, use a long-lasting deodorant and spray a light perfume layered with scented body lotion so that you smell good at all times.

Don’t forget to also carry fresh mints in your purse to ensure that your breath smells as sweet!
