No two women’s skin is same, so the magic created on a dear friend’s face may not weave the same magic for you. You may have your makeup routine down pat, but correcting these small errors could kick up the glam factor and save you some cash in the process too. Years of performing your daily beauty routine have probably made it second nature. But have you ever stopped to wonder if you’re using some of your everyday beauty products incorrectly? Here are five common products that are commonly misused:

Nail Polish

Don’t shake the bottle before you start as it creates air bubbles. Instead, roll the bottle between the palms of your hands to ensure the color is mixed. The heat of your hands will also warm up the polish, helping it to spread more easily.Speaking of nail polish; most people tend to paint each nail by working from one side to the other. Wrong! The best way to get an even distribution of polish on each nail is to aim to apply it in three strokes. Take the first stroke down the center of the nail and then do the next two on either side. Apply each coat as light and as thin as possible. Let it dry before applying the next coat. Thinner coats get dried up easily and stay up on your nails longer than thicker ones as those easily chips off.

Lash Curler

Remember that curling always comes first before applying the mascara. Using a lash curler after you’ve applied your mascara can lead to clumping and may even yank out a few sticky lashes! Instead, always use your lasher curler on clean, dry lashes.

Brow Pencil

When using a brow pencil the aim is to only add color to the sparse areas of the brows. Choose a pencil that’s just one to two shades darker than the natural hair color and apply it with a light feathering motion in the direction of the hair growth.

Moisturizer

This is one product that seems so simple, it’s almost improbable you could mess it up, but you are supposed to put moisturizer on after a serum, not before. Serums are made with smaller molecules and are highly concentrated, which makes them very effective so they need to be closer to the skin.

Sunscreen

SPF is meant to be reapplied every hour and a half to two hours, but most people don’t reapply at all. The best time to apply sunscreen is in the morning 30 minutes before going outside. It’s crucial to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30.  In order for sunscreen to do its job, the active ingredients must sit on top of the skin.
