There’s a new skincare superstar, and it comes from unroasted, cold-pressed coffee beans. Green coffee has 10 times more antioxidants than green tea, and skincare companies are scrambling to put this in their anti-ageing eye and face serums.

What’s so great about green coffee?

Green coffee has polyphenols, chlorogenic acid and ferulic acid – all proven to fight free radical damage. Free radicals damage skin tissue by starting oxidation. Have you ever seen a peeled apple turn brown after being exposed to air? The same molecular process is at work in your skin.  Exposure leads to cell dysfunction, which shows up as dullness, dryness, and fine lines. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and make them harmless.

Green coffee extract has been particularly effective for healing scar tissue and restoring radiance to the skin, because just like your morning espresso, it stimulates your skin and improves circulation. And it has two major benefits: the antioxidant (chlorogenic acid) improves cell regeneration, while the caffeine can temporarily tighten and tone. While it’s been used in some beauty products, it hasn’t gotten as much attention as other ingredients – but beauty insiders are saying it is definitely the next big thing in skincare.

Anti-ageing and slimming too!

Companies are also looking into green coffee supplements, which can boost metabolism and suppress appetite. An antioxidant that fights ageing and can help you lose weight, too? (Faints.)
