Too much hairspray

When you say 80’s, the first thing you will probably remember is the hairstyle. IIt is that big voluminous hair that made it seem like girls during this decade have an unlimited supply of hairsprays. The rule was the higher, the wider, and the curlier, the better.  In addition to a few smelly hours at the salon to get the perm, excessive use of hair gels and hair sprays were the key to achieving the perfect, crunchy staying power that made your hair as sticky as flypaper.

The Whale Spout

Nearly every young girl who lived in the 80s tried to reach for a scrunchie and tie one on. To achieve the look simply grab a triangular section of hair at the top of your head and wrap it over and around a 1-inch barrel curling iron. This gives your hair texture and subtle movement. 

Electrifying Crimper

Looking like we’d stuck our fingers into a socket, yes, this french-fry crinkle cut was a thing. Crimping irons flew off shelves in the ’80s and had a resurgence in the late ’90s.

It is characterized by hair raised high on the head and usually covering the ears or hanging down on the sides.
