Imagine what your lips look like after eating a bright cherry popsicle. That’s what a lip tint looks like — and why we love them. They give a really beautiful colour that looks natural, lasts a long time, feels weightless, and is so easy to apply. Find the best lip tint in Singapore now.

What’s the difference between a lipstick, lip tint, and lip balm?

Lipsticks are generally made of wax, which give them that smooth texture and create all sorts of different finishes. Lipsticks can be cream, matte, velvet, suede or sheer — depending on what’s mixed with the wax.

Lip balms also contain wax, but have less pigments. They’re primarily meant for moisturizing the lips, although tinted lip balms give a very subtle hint of colour.

LIp tints (sometimes called lip stains) have a higher liquid content and have lots of pigment that stick straight on the lips. It’s like ink for the lips, and they’re meant to give you lots of colour but still let your lip texture show through. Since they have less wax they won’t smudge or fade once you apply.

What’s the best way to apply a lip tint?

Once you apply a lip tint, it’s hard to get it off — so you have to work fast to blend and fix it.

If you want a blurred lip, dot it in the middle of your mouth and then blend with your fingers. If you want more precision, tap the tip with a small lip brush and apply like you would any other lipstick. We also like using lip brushes to get lip tint into the corners of the mouth or fill in the cupid’s bow.

Very liquid lip tints can get on your teeth too, so blot it right away with tissue.

Lip tint hacks

  • Use lip tint as a lipstick base. Apply it over lips, let it dry, then apply a similar lipstick shade on top. Even if your lipstick fades, you’ll still have a pretty stain on your lips.
  • Use lip tint to correct your lip colour. Orange and orange-red lip tints can brighten up dark lips, while pink lip tints can add warmth to pale lips.
  • Use lip tint under nude lipstick. It’ll add a different undertone that changes the way your lipstick looks.
  • Use lip tint under lip balm. The colour lasts longer, and won’t smudge when you reapply your balm.
  • Use lip tint on your cheeks. Just make sure to add lots of moisturizer and blend really quickly. One of our fave ways to add a bit of colour when we’re only wearing sunscreen or tinted moisturizer.
  • Fake a lip tint effect. You can use ANY pigmented lipstick to create that blurred, stain lip. Just blot out, reapply, blot, and then reapply. You remove all the waxes and oils and leave lots of layers of pigment.
