(From top) Gwen’s throwback magazine cover showcases the stick thin brows of the `90s; her latest post on Instagram with fuller brows creates for a more fresh look.

  1. Thick brows = youthfulness

We are not here to age shame but we do know that overly thin brows do not just look dated. They can make you look older than you actually are. Look up old photos of celebrities like Megan Fox, Drew Barrymore and Angelina Jolie from the nineties. You will instantly understand what we mean. Fuller brows gives off a youthful vibe just because this is exactly how you looked pre-puberty. In other words, before you met the tweezers and your favourite eyebrow-waxing lady. It is no wonder why K-beauty prefers thick and full brows, because its beauty philosophy leans towards young, cute, and innocent rather than the Western aesthetic of glamorous and powerful.

(From top) See how the exaggerated arches for Cinderellas’s step mom and sisters instantly makes them look like villains; Lana Condor’s full and slightly arched brow is perfect to give her face just a bit of lift.

  1. Your arch matters.

Overly arched brows can make you look like you are signing up to play the villain in a play. Another Google assignment: look at the Disney villains. Looks like Ursula, Maleficent, Cruella de Vil, and The Evil Snow Queen were loyal customers of the same brow salon. A slight arch is enough for daily wear. To look a bit more glamorous on special occasions, lift it a bit and make sure it is clean (no stray hairs). But an arch that is positioned closer to the inner corner of your brows will put you in the company of these villains.

(From top) No matter what Constance Wu’s hair colour is, her makeup adjusts. With lighter hair her brows are dark brown; Her natural black hair is matched with light brown eyebrows.

  1. Always match the colour.

Here is a quick rule of thumb: your brows should only be two shades lighter or darker than your hair colour. If your hair is very dark or jet black, you can go up to two shades lighter for your brows. If your hair is very light or you just dyed it blonde, you can go up to two shades darker for your brows. Some women like to exactly match the colour of their hair to their brows, it depends on the look that you are going for as well as the actual shade of your hair. But if you have gone platinum blonde for a few months, we suggest sticking to browns rather than dyeing your brows blonde too. This pulls in the entire look together and will not make anything look too harsh or too drastic. Instead, it helps to bring out all your other features so that people do not just focus on one thing on your face (like very dark brows or very blonde hair).
