Skin Quality

In search of the best skin routine for my skin, I’ve stumbled upon what many refer to as “skin quality”. Maintaining, caring for, and improving it is a never ending task. For someone who wants the best for my skin type, I’ve delved deeper into skin quality and the common misconceptions (which I unfortunately used to believe) about skincare. Here is what I found.

About Skin Quality

The general state, look, and health of a person’s skin are referred to as their “skin quality.” Numerous elements, including heredity, sun exposure, nutrition, skincare practices, and general health, can have an impact on a person’s skin quality. A clear, smooth, moisturised, and young look are traits of healthy skin. Adequate hydration, a healthy diet, sun protection, and a regular skincare routine that includes washing, moisturising, and exfoliating are all factors that affect the condition of your skin. On the contrary, unhealthy habits like smoking, eating poorly, and getting too little sleep can have a damaging effect on skin quality, causing dullness, dryness, fine lines, and wrinkles.

Skin quality also has a lot to do with signs of ageing. Collagen is necessary for maintaining the right tightness and flexibility of our skin. However, as we age, our skin loses its natural capacity to create collagen, which causes various skin disorders including wrinkles and facial tissue laxity. Hence, maintaining our skin quality also involves boosting our collagen levels through a healthy diet, skincare, supplements, and aesthetic treatments.

Misconceptions About Skin Quality

In the day and age where information is so easily accessible, it comes to no surprise that misinformation is just as easily spread. Among these misinformation include:

More Is Better

People typically believe that utilising more skincare products or using them more regularly would improve the condition of their skin. But using skincare products excessively can harm the skin and cause inflammation, dryness, and other issues.

Natural Skincare Is Best

A product’s claim to be “natural” does not guarantee that it is safe or efficient. Some natural components have the potential to irritate the skin or trigger allergic responses or other skin issues.

Skincare Are Fast Miracle Workers

People frequently anticipate seeing benefits from their skincare products right away, but this is not always the case. The secret to having good skin quality is to consistently and frequently utilise high-grade skincare products.

Discovering Ellanse

During my quest to improve my skin quality, I’ve discovered that facials and treatments are necessary on top of the daily skincare routine I’ve established for myself. Ageing is a deep insecurity to me. After discovering that collagen is essential to maintain my youthful look, I knew I wanted a treatment that would help with that. After weeks of research and hundreds of Google searches, I’ve discovered Ellanse as it was spoken about by many who share the same insecurity as I do.

Of course, I am not one to jump into a treatment without fully learning about what it is and how it works. Therefore, I interviewed Dr. Lim from MY Medical Aesthetics to learn more about this treatment and this is how it went:

How does the Ellanse help improve overall skin quality?

Collagen is naturally found in the skin and is an essential support structure that maintains the skin’s appropriate elasticity, tightness, and suppleness. However, collagen production slows down as we age, and thus this leads to the formation of fine lines, wrinkles, folds, and drooping.

The loss of natural collagen and elastin causes our skin to become laxer and saggier, contributing to a tired, aged look. Ellanse is used to lift, sculpt, and restore lost volume associated with skin ageing. It stimulates our body to produce collagen to improve skin density, firmness, elasticity, tonicity, and texture.

Which areas can be treated by Ellanse?

ELLANSE can treat the following areas as forehead, temples, brow area, nose reshaping, cheek augmentation, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, chin definition, and jawline.

When can I start to see results and how long do they last?

ELLANSÉ comprises unique Polycaprolactone (PCL) microspheres and Carboxymethyl Cellulose (CMC) carrier gel. The CMC gel gives immediate lifting and sculpting results. However, the gel only lasts for about 1 month. At the same time, the PCL microspheres begin to stimulate the skin to produce collagen. The final results will be visible in about 3 months post-injection.

Results will last from 18 to 24 months. This means that patients do not need to have the treatment done frequently. However, it is important to note that the frequency of Ellanse treatment will depend on the individual needs and the goals they want to achieve.

Is Ellanse safe?

Ellanse is generally safe. Regulatory agencies have approved it in many countries, including the US FDA. However, there is one thing that I would like to highlight to those considering Ellanse first to be aware that, unlike traditional fillers, Ellanse cannot be dissolved. Hence, it is essential to look for MOM-approved clinics and qualified doctors.

Is there any downtime?

Patients can resume back their daily activities immediately after the injection. As with all injectable procedures, there may be some swelling, localised redness at the injection site, and tenderness immediately after treatment. However, it will usually settle down after a few days.
