Benefits of Yoghurt on Your Face

yoghurt

Besides being good for your body when you consume it, there are several benefits to slathering yoghurt onto your skin as well! Here are just a few.

Acne

This might be surprising, but yoghurt, or Greek yoghurt has the benefit of helping to fight off acne! Do you want to know why? This is because yoghurt contains lactic acid, which is a type of AHA that is typically found in cleansers, moisturisers, serums and other skincare products. Besides, it’s also packed with probiotics that help combat acne and restore the bacteria balance of the skin.

Exfoliating

If you have dry skin, then you are in luck! Lactic acid has the benefit to help exfoliate the skin gently! As it removes all of the dead skin cells lurking on your skin, it reveals skin that is much brighter and youthful. Thus, you can now have skin that looks dewy and fresh. All thanks to some yoghurt!

Moisture Boost

If your skin is lacking moisture, yoghurt can help give your skin the moisture boost it needs! As it rehydrates your skin, it makes it appear much more healthier and your skin’s elasticity will even return! So you can have bouncy skin that is hydrated once more!

Soothes Irritation

What’s more, is that yoghurt can also help soothe your irritations like aloe vera does! Although not much science has proven that this actually works yet, it does suggest that yoghurts can help even soothe sunburns. This is due to its effects on cooling.

Tightens the Skin

Scared that your wrinkles are showing or coming out earlier than expected? Well, yoghurt can actually help tighten up your skin as well! This is the most natural way to tighten those fine lines and wrinkles as this is also a chemical-free solution!

Tips & Tricks

A Blender

If you are having trouble mixing or mashing your ingredients, get a blender out and just blend it! This will help make a super smooth textured yoghurt face mask too if you are someone who doesn’t like grainy textures. Plus, it saves you a few seconds of mashing and mixing!

How Long To Leave It On

You should leave on your yoghurt face mask for as long as you like! Ideally, 20 to 30 minutes is enough to let all the probiotics, AHAs and moisture to soak in. Any longer and it might start to cause irritation for some skin types. So don’t say we didn’t warn you!

Daily Or Not?

Well using too much of anything will ultimately disrupt and irritate the skin. So, it’s best to not apply it every day. Maybe twice a week is good enough!

Does it Have To Be Plain Yoghurt?

YES! It does, any type or brand of sugar-free, plain yoghurt is the perfect base for your face mask. Don’t opt for flavoured yoghurts like mango or passion fruit. Greek yoghurt is a great choice too has it is much thicker than normal yoghurt. Therefore, it won’t melt off as easily!

Oh No! I Ran Out of Yoghurt!

Well, in that case, there are two things you can substitute with. Either with plain kefir or just buttermilk. If you don’t have buttermilk, you can always make some by mixing regular milk with some lemon juice! Easy Peasy, Lemon Squeasy! Although, make sure you always test any DIY on a small patch of skin first. Just to see how your skin reacts! This is because everyone’s skin is different!
