Getting eyelash extensions for the first time? Here’s what you can expect and how to keep your new lashes in the best shape.

The most common kinds of eyelash extensions

Eyelash extensions are usually made from synthetic fiber, silk or mink. They also come in different lengths that range from 6mm to 17mm. These are applied individually with a special semi-permanent glue.
Your Singapore salon will offer you a menu of lash extensions, usually priced at full set, half set, or individual lashes. While a full set will give you maximum volume, a half set can help enhance your eyes or act as a filler to thicken your natural lashes.

You can create a number of looks, but if you have very short and thin lashes, it’s best to start with a half set. It’s easier to add more lashes than remove them!

Are eyelash extensions safe?

Yes! Singapore salons use special glue that won’t irritate your eyes. And no glue will get into your eyes since your eyes are closed during the procedure. Lash technicians are also trained to apply the extensions so they don’t damage your eyelash roots.

It’s NOT true that you can “go blind” from eyelash extensions! The worst thing that can happen is you develop an allergic reaction to the glue (which doesn’t mean that the glue isn’t safe – just that you are sensitive to one of the ingredients). Allergic reactions are very rare, but in that case, an eye doctor can prescribe eyedrops that will clear the problem in a few days.

If you feel any discomfort or burning while the lashes are applied, tell your eyelash technician. This may indicate that you are sensitive to the glue, and she may be able to switch to another product.

What will my lashes look and feel like after the procedure?

Here’s a video review by well-known vlogger Jen from Head to Toe. She says lash extensions are perfect for low-maintenance makeup and look “way more natural than false eyelashes.”

How often should you have eyelash extensions?

Maintenance depends on how fast your own natural lashes grow and fall out (a very natural process). This can vary from 4 to 8 weeks.

What precautions should I take after my appointment?

Keep your eye lashes dry 24 hours after your appointment. Avoid swimming or washing your face so that the glue has time to fully set.

Your Singapore salon will also give you specific instructions on how to care for your eyelash extensions. After-care depends on the kind of glue and lashes that were used. Ask if you need to avoid oil-based makeup removers, and when you can start using mascara or eyelash curlers.

Can I still use mascara?

You don’t need to use mascara – eyelash extensions give you all the lift and volume you need! But if you really want to, avoid waterproof formulas and apply only on the tip.
