How to Always Look Like You Just Stepped Out Of A Hair Salon

Categories :

Our hair always looks perfect after a trip to the hair salon, but how do we recreate that at home? Professional stylists share their expert hair tip and favorite, fool-proof products.

Hair tip # 1: Use coconut oil for a DIY hair mask

Do you have dry hair or split ends? In between haircuts, hot oil or keratin treatments, you can fake the look of healthy, softer hair with coconut oil.

“Of all the products and oils I’ve used to nourish hair, I’ve never found anything that does it as well as coconut oil,” says celebrity hairstylist Cash Lawless. Just apply to damp hair from mid-shaft to the tips. Wash it out after 20 minutes. If you have very thin or fine hair, use a clarifying shampoo.

Hair tip # 2: Get a salon-level blowout with this hairstyling hack

Even if you’ve got zero blowdrying skills, this trick give instant volume. Divide hair into three sections that you blow dry one by one. These are:

  • The bottom section: the hair below your ears
  • The middle section: hair between your ears and the temples of your forehead
  • The top section: whatever’s left

Use hair clips to hold each section in place, then blow dry at the lowest heat setting (read our review on the Dyson) Start with the bottom section and work your way up. Cash Lawless says this works better than clipping hair after you blow dry it, which leaves kinks and reduces volume.

Hair tip # 3: Use a good volumizing spray

Very thick styling products can weigh down your hair and make all your blowdrying efforts useless. Try these best volumizing sprays that work even on fine or thin hair! Try:

Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray. Gives instant lift, body and volume. Spritz it on your hair before you start blowdrying.

Tresemme Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse. One beauty reviewer said that her fine hair felt extra thick, and the volume lasted all day! And unlike other hair mousse, this doesn’t feel sticky at all.

Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray. You’ll look like the girl in the shampoo commercial: there’s just enough glimmer for your hair to gleam in the sunlight.
