Who’s the queen of ponytails? That’s right, it is Ms Grande here! The queen of ponytails, Ariana Grande is known for always having a ponytail. There is no other hairstyle that she would rather wear! We can’t blame her, because she definitely rocks it like the queen she is. The ponytail is sort of her signature now! So, whenever we see Ariana without it, we feel kinda squeamish. But, whenever we see other people rocking this classic hairstyle, we can’t help but compare them to Ms Grande herself! Regardless, the ponytail is the easiest, most effortless and dare we say traditional? Hairstyles of all. Everybody does it, just like you would a bun. Don’t forget, there are several variations of the ponytail hairstyle as well. While Ariana tends to sport her iconic high ponytail, a few Kpop Idols are messing around with different ponytail hairstyles. Read on as Beauty Insider names your favourite idols and their iconic ponytail hairstyles as well!

Kpop Ponytails

1. Irene – Red Velvet

With Irene’s beauty, she is able to pull off any hairstyle and colour thrown her way! Whether she wears her hair up or down, she will always look like a goddess! Most of the time, we get to see Irene’s long tresses waving down. But occasionally, we’ll get to see her in a ponytail. As her hair is pulled up, her facial features are definitely much more accentuated. With her jawline looking much sharper than when her hair was covering her face. What’s more, is that her ponytail always looks voluminous and poofy! Surprisingly, her ponytail has a hard time loosening up too, so what’s the secret? Stick to the end to find out!

2. Tzuyu – TWICE

Tzuyu is always greeting us with a smile and has given us many different hairstyles before too! Known for her cute appearance, Tzuyu is actually Taiwanese and not Korean. With small lips and round beady eyes, Tzuyu is the definition of cute! Her cuteness definitely makes the rest of us feel like protecting her like a younger sister. It is no wonder that hairstyles such as pigtails and ponytails add to her adorableness. Instead of how most of us would look when in a pulled-back ponytail(practically bald), Tzuyu pulls it off with ease. Similarly, have you tried a side ponytail? Yeah, I think we all look kind of messy when we try. With thick hair, sometimes it may even look bulky. Tzuyu on the other hand, just looks twice as cute in a side ponytail, as she does in pigtails.

3. Yeji – ITZY

With Yeji, we are used to seeing her with her hair up. No matter the performance, Yeji could be spotted with either braids, buns or ponytails. What was rare for her, was the sight of her hair flowing down. But, Yeji is a force to be reckoned with as she can rock almost any hairstyle she has to! What’s more interesting is that Yeji is always surprising netizens with her ability to be both sexy and cute at the same time. Well, not technically the same, but you get what we mean right? Even with space buns on, Yeji manages to look fierce. But the next second, she’ll be giving you the aegyo you’ve been waiting for! Even with pigtails, she manages to make them look cool and sexy instead of the traditional cutesy, innocent vibe! We stand a queen who can give us the best of both worlds!

4. IU

Of course, we couldn’t write a list about hair without mentioning IU! Once known as the “Nation’s Little Sister”, IU is always serving us looks. In her recent drama – Hotel Del Luna, IU plays Jang Manwol who honestly, has the best fashion sense ever. Throughout the show, we see a variety of different fashion outfits and hairstyles. What’s more, is that her character is constantly sporting long, luscious locks for IU to play around with. One of the looks included a high ponytail as she wore a hot pink outfit. The whole look screams elegance and money! Exactly what her character is sort of about! Here, we see that the top of her ponytail is significantly puffier than the rest of her hair. This extra volume really ensures that the hairstyle doesn’t fall flat. Her sleek, straight ponytail is also paired with airy, curly bangs parted to the sides.

5. Jennie – BlackPink

We may love Jennie with the bangs, but we can’t deny that Jennie with the ponytail is iconic as well. Her high ponytail resembles that of Ariana Grande’s as it sits highly, on top of her head. If you look closely, you’ll notice that her ponytail is actually wrapped by her hair as well. Two queens, we all love sporting iconic ponytails. We just can’t choose! Jennie is yet another Kpop Idol that can rock any type of hairstyle you throw at her. That is evident through her Instagram page, where you can tell that she has changed up her hair A LOT of times. Even in pigtails, Jennie was able to look absolutely stunning.

6. Rosé – BlackPink

Rosé has always been a hot topic of conversation. Especially when netizens found out that she was attending the Met Gala earlier this month! With the theme being “ In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion”, Rosé debuted on the carpet with a Saint Laurent black mini dress. Adding a giant white bow onto it definitely made it stand out even more! Since Rosé has bleached, blonde hair, her hair is quite fragile and prone to breakage. Thus, why she always wears her hair down compared to other members of BlackPink. Who are constantly switching up their hairstyles. So, the next best hairstyle for Rosé is a ponytail! That is exactly what she wears and she rocks it. A sleek middle ponytail with face-framing bangs. Perfection.

Tips to Spice Up Your Ponytail

We guess that since ponytails are so iconic, many people know how to use them perfectly. Well, that’s not true because even some of us remember messing up a ponytail when we were kids! Right? No? Ok…uhm, moving on, we’d like to share some tips for you to achieve that perfect ponytail. Or, just to spice up your look a bit if you are getting bored.

1. Frame Your Face

First off, it is framing your face! This is a life-saving hack because it can transform you from a balding, Egyptian cat when you pull all your hair back into a cute junior at school. All you have to do is pull out a few strands of hair after tying your ponytail hairstyle. Of course, you shouldn’t tie your ponytail too tight as well! Or this hack wouldn’t matter. If you have curtain bangs, this is the right moment to leave it out when gathering hair. You can always leave out some pieces of hair when gathering near your face.

2. Tangle Teezer

In order to achieve that perfect, silky smooth and straight hair, untangling your hair is probably a good place to start. Combing through and untangling your hair with a tangle teezer is the best way to do it. It’s also super easy to use! But, you can always use a comb to comb it through.

3. Accessories

A great way to spice up any hairstyle is by adding accessories. Similar to how you put on your statement jewellery before leaving the house! An outfit isn’t complete without the necessary jewellery. Similar to how Rosé had a giant white bow on her dress, you can wear a giant clip on your head too! Or, you may want a headband or even a hat to pull the whole look together.

4. Bangs

If you are up for it, you can get bangs to frame your face! Straight cut bangs or see-through bangs were quite popular in Korea a few years ago. To be honest, it still is! If you aren’t ready for that kind of commitment yet, you can always take a page out of Jennie’s books, and get fake clip-on bangs.

5. Bobby Pins

This is an easy hack that most people have been doing. Whenever you need to secure your ponytail or hairstyle in place, bobby pins are your new best friend! Even the hairstylist for Red Velvet reveals that in order to keep Irene’s ponytail from falling downhill, she uses bobby pins. But, that’s not all, she also mentions that the direction you twist and pull your elastic band can determine how sturdy your ponytail will be. She suggests pulling your elastic band forward to make it tighter and more secure.

6. Your Own Hair

A cool tip if you don’t want your hairband to show, you can actually use your own hair to cover it up! Just wrap a small strand of hair around your elastic band until all of it is covered. Then, either tuck your hair into the hairband, or use bobby pins to secure them in place. Simple as that!
