What are Laser Facials?
Laser facials combine lasers with light therapy or special hydrating essences. They can help decrease the size of your pores, stimulate collagen, and help fade hyperpigmentation. Over time, they can even out your skin tone and improve your skin quality.
Additionally, while these give better results than traditional facials, you can expect the usual side effects of redness and sensitivity. However, these treatments use non-ablative lasers which don’t damage the skin surface—so they actually have a shorter healing time than chemical peels or micro-needling.
What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Just like the word “resurfacing” implies, this treatment helps remove surface dead skin cells and stimulate the production of new skin cells—revealing smoother, tighter, and more radiant skin. There are two types of lasers that are commonly used during the treatment namely Erbium and Carbon Dioxide.
Furthermore, this should be done by a dermatologist or aesthetic doctor (check our guide for a full list of laser clinics in Singapore). They will know the suitable type of laser to use, and whether it should be combined with other treatments to achieve the desired results.
Laser Treatments for Acne
Acne laser treatments reduce the appearance of acne scars by breaking up the scar tissue or stimulating collagen to fill in indentations or pockmarks. They are often combined with IPL (intense pulsed light) to kill bacteria and reduce redness and swelling.
Laser Treatments for Hair Removal
Laser treatment for hair removal is suitable if you’re seeking something more than just regular shaving, tweezing, or waxing. The treatment involves using highly concentrated light on the hair follicles to remove the hair. Besides, this type of laser treatment can remove the hair on various areas like the face, bikini line, leg, arm, underarm, and back. Plus, laser hair removal is also preferred due to its benefits in ensuring undamaged skin, speed and desired results.
What are the Types Of Lasers Used during the Treatment?
There are different types of laser treatments and machines used during laser treatments in Singapore. This can include:
- CO2 Lasers are ablative lasers that are often used to fade scars, remove warts, treat deep wrinkles or other issues that affect the inner skin layers
- Erbium Lasers promote collagen remodelling and are typically used for anti-ageing treatments for wrinkles, sagging, and age spots
- Pulsed-Dye Lasers are non-ablative lasers that heat the skin and absorb pigments and are often used for hyperpigmentation, rosacea and broken capillaries
- Fractional Lasers use very small pulses to focus on smaller areas of the face and are ideal for blemishes
How Long is the Pain and Healing Time?
Most patients describe lasers as “rubber bands snapping on the face”. In most cases, there is only mild discomfort, and most laser clinics in Singapore will give you a numbing cream. During the laser treatment, the duration of healing time may take up to 10 days or even more depend on the type of treatment that you undergo.
But honestly, the level of discomfort can vary according to the kind of laser, the area and depth of treatment, and your own personal pain tolerance. Ablative lasers target the skin surface, so you will experience more pain, redness, swelling, and a longer healing time. To add, non-ablative lasers don’t damage the skin surface, and you will only feel some tenderness in the treated area.
You should also be honest with your doctor about your medical history and medications since these can affect your healing time and risks. For example, aspirin thins your blood and can increase your risk for post-treatment bleeding, while isotretinoin can affect your skin’s ability to heal.
How Much is the Cost of Laser Treatments in Singapore?
The cost of laser treatments in Singapore depends on the treatment that you choose. Generally, the price of laser hair removal treatment is between $200 and $500 per area. Meanwhile, the starting price for laser treatment for the skin or face is around $300 and it depends on the type of laser used during the treatment.
