AWAY FROM THE CITY. A tropical haven awaits at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa.
Despite being a tropical island, Singapore only has one resort with a true beachfront location – Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore, located on the recreational island of Sentosa. And it is easily accessible from the city to boot – just 15 minutes from the city centre and 30 minutes from Changi International Airport. What’s more, the resort also provides a daily complimentary shuttle service to shuttle guests to and from the resort and nearby VivoCity shopping mall.
Formerly known as Rasa Sentosa Resort, Singapore, the resort was rebranded and re-opened in 2011 following an extensive S$80 million, 10-month facelift. All 454 rooms in the resort now feature lovely views of the hill, garden, pool or sea, with a balcony in each room for guests to enjoy the lush natural surroundings. The tranquil sensibility continues indoors as soothing green and beige hues are the palette of choice, and wood is used as the predominant material throughout the room. Displayed prominently above the head of the bed is a floral carving while leaf motifs run across the bedding. Together, they leave you feeling like you have really come home to Mother Nature herself.
More than a beautiful sight to behold, the rooms are also designed to cater to the varying needs of travellers. Guests with children can check into a larger Deluxe Garden Room or Pool View Room, instead of the common practice of booking two connecting rooms.
For honeymooners, take a dip in your own private outdoor Jacuzzi in the Deluxe Seaview Suite, or opt for the
Panorama Room, which features an open concept bathroom that offers breathtaking views of the South China Sea. And for the ultimate spot of luxury to be had at the resort, book the Sentosa Suite, which is the equivalent of a Presidential Suite, and the only room in the entire resort with an indoor Jacuzzi.
Complementing the fabulous accommodation is an array of scrumptious dining options. Head to Dine on 3 for a selection of four restaurants and a bar under one roof. Barnacles features an array of Western and Chinese cuisines, with signature dishes such as seafood platter, black pepper and chili crab. Tuck into family style portions of the world’s cuisines at Casserole, or watch chefs in action at ‘live’ cooking stations at Silver Shell Café. For Oriental palates, there’s Chinese noodle house 8 Noodles. Then kick back with a cocktail al fresco style or indoors at The Bubble Bar.
There’s also the open-air Trapizza, which serves crispy thin crust pizzas baked in a traditional wood-fired oven. Siloso Beach Bar, right next to the resort’s swimming pool, is a great chill-out spot with an ice cream bar to cool you down in the equatorial heat.
Activities for All
While the resort is a tropical paradise for nature-loving adults, kids will find their own bliss at Cool Zone, the largest children’s club in a Singapore hotel. It stretches over two storeys, and is free for in-house guests aged five to 12. As a value-add service, Cool Zone provides complimentary buffet lunch and dinner for registered participants in its full-day kids programme. There are various activity centres such as Toots Club and Game Zone that are fully supervised by an experienced recreational team. And if that’s not enough, Cool Zone features a large slide that starts from the third level of the resort, and winds down right into the colourful ball pit at level one.
Adults, meanwhile, can enjoy pampering treatments from CHI, The Spa or have their own fun at the natural water swimming pool, 24-hour gym, outdoor Jacuzzis, Sea Sports Centre and The Flying Trapeze, where adventure seekers can try their hand at performing acrobatic feats. For a rare slice of paradise in this cosmopolitan city, look no further than Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa.
