As the new year comes, our best selves come forth and our hair is no exception. There are some new hair trends on the horizon. We’ve seen what’s to come this year in terms of haircuts for all lengths and textures. 2018 is going to be all about embracing natural, no-fuss textures with fresh, interesting haircuts. Low maintenance shortcuts, easy bangs, and enhanced textures are the name of the game. But we’re seeing long, relaxed styles and middle parts make a comeback, as well.

Long Pixie

A surprising number of celebs chopped their hair off into pixies—including Katie Holmes. Instead of following the other stars’ leads with short, textured cuts, Holmes opted to keep some length on top for a few more styling options. We’re loving this long pixie you can tousle with texture if you have wavy or curly hair or create a sleek, refined look if you have straight hair. Keep the front section of bangs swept to the side for a flattering frame.

For extra body, spritz a volume-boosting conditioner like this.

Low-key bangs

Have you noticed how Korean girls don’t have just any regular bangs? They have the coolest bangs ever. See-through bangs are in full-force due to their low maintenance styling and cool-girl feel. We’re seeing many bangs that aren’t full fringe or blunt but instead, go a little more wispy or part in the center. It’s going to make having bangs a less stressful affair. If you want a face-framing style, go for the three roller method. This is where you take the front of your bangs and place the roller directly underneath your hair and then curl inward instead of outward. This way, once you take out the roller, the hair will have a slight curl and lay against the forehead.

Modern shaggy

The beginning of 2017 saw the return of the shag, and now it’s all grown up going into the new year. Some adventurous ladies are bringing it up to ear-length, but we always love the chin-grazing length. We’re talking a minimalist style that lets you wash and go. It stays away from too many layers, and it works super well for fine hair. For a modernist spin, go with a middle part, but a classic side part makes it look simple and easy.

No-fuss wash and wear

The overwhelming consensus of industry professionals is that many clients are longing for long, silky locks that look great with their natural bends and waves. It’s another wash-and-go style that keeps hair straighteners and curling wands at bay unless needing to touch up just a couple spots.

Blunt Bob

The natural progression of the lob is taking your length up to an inch or two into a bob. Long enough to pull back and short enough to frame the neck, a lob is the Great Compromise of haircuts. It can be curled for texture or layered for interest. But it’s at its most sophisticated when it’s sleek and blunt. If you’re not walking down a runway, ask your stylist to cut the outer layer of hair slightly shorter than the rest with a few vertical snips at the ends.
