Let’s face it, the reality is that time will take over our complexions. Collagen loss means more fine lines, deep wrinkles, and sagging of the face and neck. Although our favourite anti-ageing creams can do wonders, sometimes we need a high-tech treatment that can boost collagen levels and combat saggy skin. But what if you’re not ready for surgery or want to avoid downtime? Enter: ultherapy treatments in Singapore.

What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a non-invasive treatment that triggers collagen production to lift and tighten loose skin. It is often prescribed for sagging areas including the eyes, under the chin, the neck, and décolletage.
Ultherapy treatments are the only FDA-approved non-invasive medical treatments for lifting and tightening skin! And unlike other medical procedures, this firming treatment is non-surgical and has very little down-time. The secret is in how it boosts collagen. It doesn’t affect the skin surface layer, so there’s very little visible damage or skin irritation.
What to Expect from the Ultherapy Procedure
Collagen is the net that holds cells together. When we lose collagen, our skin starts to lose firmness and suppleness both on our face and neck. Topical creams try to infuse collagen or other skin plumping ingredients, but medical treatments prompt your body to produce more collagen. One way to do that is to strategically “stress” the skin, prompting it to heal itself.
That’s what the Ultherapy treatment does. It sends micro-focused ultrasound waves that penetrate into the deeper skin layers, leaving the epidermis untouched. The waves heat up skin tissues and signal the body to produce more collagen. This treatment rejuvenates your skin from within.
What happens during a treatment?
Ultherapy sessions are non-invasive, short, and have minimal pain and discomfort. Firstly, a cold gel is applied to the skin, followed by ultrasound imaging. This allows the doctors to determine the best treatment approach for your concerns — whether it’s smaller areas like crow’s feet, or larger areas like a sagging neck.
Afterwards, the ultrasound energy is deposited onto the targeted areas to tighten the tissues and stimulate collagen production. Most people describe the treatment as painless. You will feel heat, but it does not become as warm as laser procedures or sting like microneedling. If you have low pain thresholds, this may be the best skin firming treatment for you.
The procedure typically takes around 30 to 90 minutes, depending on the treatment area.
HIFU vs Ultherapy Treatment
Similar to ultherapy, High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) treatments are non-invasive and non-surgical ways of boosting collagen with ultrasound waves. So, which skin treatment should you use?
It’s really up to you. However, the biggest difference between the two medical procedures is that ultherapy treatments allow real-time visualization of your skin’s layers. This allows doctors to be determine exactly which areas need treatment for the best results while decreasing the chances of skin bruising.
Since HIFU treatments do not use ultrasound-imaging, it’s more difficult for doctors to determine the precise depth of the tissue layers and patients would be less likely to see optimal results. In other words, Ultherapy allows more precise medical treatment.
Additionally, ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound technology which deposits energy onto one specific area. This means that ultherapy can penetrate into the skin’s deepest layers for better results. This is especially beneficial for areas with significant sagging, like necks or jawline.
Benefits of Ultherapy Treatment
No Downtime
The good news is that ultherapy treatment does not disrupt your daily schedule. Although there might be swelling and redness after your session, these side effects will quickly subside. So you can head back to work after your quick procedure.
Customisable
Whether you are looking for brow elevation, less eyelid hooding, or a more defined neck, the ultherapy treatment is completely customisable. Your doctor can cater the skin treatment to your needs.
As ultherapy uses ultrasound imaging for real-time visualisation, doctors can be precise with the areas that need to be treated. Plus, ultherapy can be combined with other cosmetic and medical treatments such as Botox for longer-lasting results.
Long-lasting improvement
An Ultherapy treatment focuses on stimulating collagen production. It triggers the body’s natural skin regeneration process to produce more collagen. Therefore, you can expect tighter and more youthful skin over long periods of time. It is by far more permanent and effective procedure than a collagen sheet mask or a collagen drink.
How Long Do Ultherapy Treatment Results Last?
Most patients report that the effects of their ultherapy treatment usually last for around 2 to 3 years. Having said that, how long the results last depend on every individual’s natural ageing process. Therefore, doctors would recommend an ultherapy touch-up session 6 to 12 months after the first procedure.
What are the Side Effects of Ultherapy?
After the first treatment, patients may experience mild tingling sensations, slight swelling and slight redness. However, these side effects usually resolve within a few hours.
What Can’t Ultherapy Do?
Although ultherapy sounds like a surefire solution to youthful skin, it cannot replace a surgical facelift. As compared to ultherapy, surgical facelifts boast dramatic and longer-lasting results that last for around 5 to 10 years. For considerably saggy skin, cosmetic surgical facelifts may be a better treatment option for more noticeable results.
How much does Ultherapy Cost?
In Singapore, the prices for ultherapy treatments start at $2000 and range to $6000 for a full face treatment. As ultherapy treatments are personalised, these prices may vary depending on what areas need to be treated and the severity of each area.
