There’s no such thing as owning too many lipsticks! Here’s why you should indulge in your lipstick obsession – and how to find the best lipstick in Singapore!
Have you heard of the Lipstick Index? Economists have found that during economic crises (or even moments of great stress!) women buy more lipstick. It’s an “affordable luxury” that immediately makes us feel better – and boosts our spirits when we need it most.
Lipstick is an instant mood booster
One swipe of our favourite shade and we feel we can conquer the world. It can make us feel more sexy right before a big date, or more confident before a big job interview.
Lipstick helps us express different sides of ourselves
Our lipstick reflect the mood of the moment. A bright fuschia pink can make us feel like a rockstar; a softer, delicate pink brings out our feminine side.
Lipstick can help us complete the “look” of the day: a sparkly lipstick for clubbing, a chic but professional pinkish-nude lipstick for work, a fresh pink gloss for weekends.
Lipstick is fun (and easy!)
You don’t need mad makeup skills to apply lipstick. Just open the tube, swipe it on, blot it off, and you’re done! And even the hot lipstick trends are easy to pull off. Ombre lips, glitter lips, blurred lips – anyone can do them, with the right lipstick.
Build your Lipstick Collection
You don’t need to own a lot of lipsticks; just have enough variety in your lipstick collection so you can create any look you want.
Have at least one pinkish-nude lipstick. This is a universally flattering shade that you can wear on its own, or to complement more dramatic eye makeup looks.
You also need two or three “everyday” lipsticks that you can use for work or school. These are no-fuss, easy to apply colours that you keep in your makeup kit. It’s good to have 1 pink, 1 red and 1 nude or brown lipstick on hand.
Since you will use them often, try to get lipsticks with SPF and lip-nourishing ingredients. One of them can be a lip tint, lip balm or extra-moisturizing lipstick that you can use when your lips feel a bit dry.
As for red lipstick, explore different finishes and shades! A matte red looks very sophisticated and the perfect partner for a kitten flick or cat eye. A bright, sheer red can be worn in the day time.
Pinks are versatile, too – and so fun to play with! Aside from lipstick, consider getting a pink lip-and-cheek tint and a pink lipstain. These are great for giving your lips a subtle, natural looking hint of colour.
You can just swipe on lipstick and you’re done, but a few extra tools and tricks can help your favorite shade look even better!
Lip brush for precise and even application. An absolute must for matte lipstick, so you can get to the inner corners of your lips.
Lip liner to intensify the colour and prevent bleeding. You can also apply lip liner all over your lip and apply gloss on top!
Lip scrub to exfoliate the lips and keep it smooth and soft – the best base for lipstick is healthy lips!
Lip balm with SPF to moisturize lips and provide sun protection.
