Honouring World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October, Master Mohan Kumar, Senior Yoga Instructor at Yoga Edition @ Orchard by True Group shares 5 practical tips on how to take a mental health day to relax and declutter your mind.

Taking a “mental health day” has grown in popularity in recent years, acknowledging the need to disengage and recharge in order to avoid burnout. Taking time away from everyday activities and obligations to step back, relax, and de-stress is what a mental wellness day entails.

While we may choose when we want to take this day off, it is vital to remember that self-care should not be a one-time event. To keep our minds and bodies healthy, we should include these practices into our everyday life.

We at Beauty Insider ask you to join us in honouring the World Mental Health Day.

How To Recharge Your Mind

Tip #1: Sleep In

Snooze without feeling guilty! With work and other commitments, it’s tempting to neglect getting enough sleep, which is critical for our bodies and minds to recharge, recuperate, and heal. Getting adequate sleep is a vital element of self-care since it allows us to relax and unwind, relieves stress, and increases our vitality.

Tip #2: Practise Mindfulness

Mindfulness activities can help you de-stress and relieve tension by re-focusing on yourself and positive ideas. Put yourself in the Lotus Pose and attempt the following:

  • Breathing mindfully: Breathe deeply and slowly, enabling your belly to expand, culminating in a schematic diagram of oxygen, which can calm your heart rate and lower your blood pressure.
  • Positive visualisation: Imagine yourself resting in a fantasy location, enjoying nature, or engaging in things you like. You’ll be able to appreciate living in the now more if you practise often.
  • Sound therapy: The soft sounds of different sound treatments, such as singing bowls, will aid in relaxation and mental equilibrium.

Tip #3: Spend Time In Nature

In the midst of the frantic city life, a little detox might go a long way! Whether we work from home or in the office, the last few years have helped us realise the advantages of being outdoors. Get off from your devices and go for a brief walk around the area, or organise a weekend trek with your pals for a relaxing escape!

Tip #4: Get A Gentle, Restorative Stretch In

With calming effects on both the mind and body, yoga not only helps you attain a state of calmness, but also positively impacts our cognitive and emotional skills. It allows one to focus on themselves and lowers the stress hormones in our bodies.

Pick a yoga club that offers variety and convenience. For example, Yoga Edition @ Orchard offers over 30 different class types – including some conducted in Mandarin – from therapeutic Gentle Yoga, to invigorating Hot Yoga, or even something different like Aerial Yoga.

Tip #5: Get Your Creative Juices Flowing

Get out there and do something new.  Participating in interactive thinking might help you enhance your brain function and express yourself in new ways. Lean into that creative energy and let your thoughts roam with an art jam session, pottery lesson, or a simple DIY project at home.
