Pretty flower girls aren’t the only ones who can pull off ribbons in their hair. Sometimes a hairstyle can only give you so much to your look but there are certain ways to spice up your appearance. They’re probably lying around your house and you wouldn’t think to implement them but yes, RIBBONS. Hence, Beauty Insider is listing out the best ribbon hairstyles, a tutorial and how to rock them!

1. Frida Kahlo-Inspired Crown

Frida Kahlo, one of the first braid crown icons, was photographed with ribbons woven into her meticulously braided updos. Forming two distinct braids and pinning them to the crown of your head is a simple fake for a genuine crown braid, which can be tough to perfect on your own. Make your braids look like Frida’s by weaving a ribbon through them before drawing them up into a crown.

2. Ponytail Bow

This is a charming look for the holidays, whether you have naturally wavy hair or want to add waves to your ribbon styles to make them fancier. Instead of placing a ribbon at the top of your ponytail, utilise it to keep it in place. We recommend using a hair tie first, then applying a velvet string over it and tying it into a bow for thicker hair types. You won’t have to worry about your ribbon not being tight enough to keep your hair in place.

3. Top-knot tie

On either side of your head, gather a one-inch length of hair from just above your ear. Then, take a one-inch chunk of hair from the back of your head’s centre. In total, you should have three strands. Braid your hair three times as if you were doing a French braid, adding parts from the sides of your head as you weave.

Continue braiding a classic three-strand braid down the length of your hair, then fasten with a clear elastic once you’ve added hair three times on each side. For a beautiful, feminine finish, wrap your hair ribbon over the end of the braid, hiding the transparent elastic.

4. Basic braid ribbon

A ribbon is an unusual method to dress up your braid. For a subtle touch, opt with a colour that matches your hair, or go all out with a contrasting neon ribbon. Put your hair in a ponytail wherever you want the braid to be with a hair knot. This might be two pigtails, a high pony, a low pony, or a side pony.

Make three portions in your ponytail, one of which incorporates the ribbon. Braid your hair, as usual, being sure to maintain the ribbon attached to its portion of hair.

5. Braided bun ribbon

Begin by braiding your hair and integrating your chosen ribbon into the braid. Wrap the braid into a bun and secure it in place after it’s completed. To ensure the ribbon pops, tease the braid a little before pulling it into a bun and again after it’s secure. The most enjoyable aspect is deciding which fabrics to use, which range from thick satin ribbons to patterned scarves.

6. Simply pinned

Ponytails are one of the simplest and best methods to create ribbon styles. You can continue with this if you’re not in the mood to dig out all of your hair tools to make a highly sophisticated look. To smooth any flyaway, brush your hair back with a boar-bristle brush. To finish the look, pin a ribbon to the top of your ponytail and you’re done.

7. Dramatic long ribbons

The extra-long ribbon is one ribbon hairstyle that is likely to give drama to a daily haircut. The waterfall of ribbon that extends past the length of your hair is sure to attract attention and give you a Rapunzel impression. The longer the ribbon, especially if you’re constructing a bow, the better for this aesthetic.

8. Dutch ponytail

Part your hair from the top of one ear to the top of the other to make a top portion. For the time being, clip the top part up and out of the way. Curl the bottom portion of your hair with a one-inch barrel curling iron. Then weave this part of your hair into a Dutch braid at the crown of your head.

Stop braiding when you reach the back of your head and fasten the ends with a transparent elastic. Gather your hair into a high, curly ponytail and smooth it out. Make a bow at the base of your ponytail with your chosen ribbon.

9. Half twists

A two-inch chunk of hair from the left side of your hairline should be gathered. Begin twisting it backwards, gradually adding more hair. When you reach the back of your head’s centre, stop twisting.

Starting on the right side of your hairline, create another twist in the same manner. Using a hair elastic, connect the two parts. To hide your hair elastic and complete your style, grab a hair ribbon and knot it around it.

10. Wrap-around

Use a ribbon as a makeshift headband if you’re attempting to resuscitate second-day hair or just want to add something to your natural hair structure. The fast style keeps your hair out of your face while also looking stylish. Bring the two ends of the ribbon around to the top of your head, starting at the back of your neck. Make a knot in the ribbon and then spin it so that the knot is concealed by your hair.
