If you have searched the Internet endlessly for the best skincare products and
ingredients to achieve radiant skin, it must come at no surprise that Vitamin C
is at the top of the list. According to the Pinterest 100 Report released in 2018, the number of searches for Vitamin C in skincare has increased by a whopping 3,379 percent so it is suffice to say that there is great interest.

Vitamin C is known for its ability to help boost the body’s capacity to regenerate and heal. A miracle worker on the skin, it is best applied topically as Vitamin C is not able to penetrate the upper and lower layers of the skin when taken orally.

Radiance and smoothness are just two of the many major benefits Vitamin C provides when incorporated into your skincare regime. It also contains powerful antioxidants that help protect the skin against free radical damage. Largely caused by environmental pollutants, free radical damage can lead to wrinkles and sagging skin.

Not all Vitamin C is created equal. The “King” of Vitamin C as reported by Telegraph is L-ascorbic acid. This type of Vitamin C not only boosts collagen production, but also smoothens and firms skin as well. In addition, it reverses the damage caused by photo-aging–pre-mautre aging of the skin caused by sunlight–and protects against further damage.

So when searching for a good Vitamin C product to introduce into your skincare routine, be sure to look out for these three things:

1. L-ascorbic acid, as mentioned earlier

2. UV protective packaging. Vitamin C is known to be very sensitive and tends to oxidise when exposed to excessive sunlight. Therefore, the potency of Vitamin C products that are not in UV protective packaging is likely to be significantly reduced.

3. Dropper or pump dispenser. Vitamin C also oxidises when exposed to air. To keep your Vitamin C from being unnecessarily exposed, look for products that come with user friendly droppers or pump dispensers. This is also why if you are looking for Vitamin C skincare products, it is best to first go for serums so you can maximise the potency.

At our recently concluded Beauty Insider’s Awards, we can across the BSKIN V Line Intense PAF Concentrate Serum. We chose it as an award-winner due to its potent Vitamin C content of 20% stabilised L-ascorbic acid. Its stable formulation also boosts the skin’s collagen production and stimulates cell repair.

After six weeks of consistent use during a clinical trial conducted at the Clinical Trial Center for Bio-Industry at Semyung University and Korea, 90% of women reported more radiant skin, and 95% noticed that their skin was more hydrated after using BSKIN’s V Line Intense PAF Concentrate Serum. 90% of these women also noticed an improvement in their skin texture and 85% remarked that their skin appeared to be more firm.

Adding a Vitamin C serum to your morning skincare routine is a great way to protect your skin against the sun, pollution and other environmental factors that cause free-radical damage. You can also use it at night to boost your skin’s natural renewal process and ensure you wake up with glowing, supple skin. If you are using glycolic or salicylic acid or are receiving invasive laser or peeling treatments, it is best to wait a little before using a Vitamin C serum to avoid redness or stinging.
