During this confined period of the circuit breaker, we tend to have more time at hand. Hence, we have more time to care for our skin and fit in all the routines and facial treatments that we did not previously have the time for. However, everything or subject has its do’s and don’t, and here are some skincare do’s and don’ts that will help you achieve better skin during this quarantine period.

Do wear your sunscreen

Even though you work from home, the chances of you getting natural light in the room are there. Hence, wearing an SPF, especially when you are working near a window is essential. This is because UVs can penetrate through your windows. Whether or not you re going out, wearing a sunscreen is always essential

Do sort your products

We all have lots of products and makeup tools that we use or either keep in our drawers that have been there for many many years. Use this time to go through them and toss out those products that are passed their expiry dates. Old makeup and skincare decomposes and harbours bacteria that leads to skin irritation and infections.

Do drink up on water

Now that you’re at home and not at the office, running the washroom every 20 minutes should not be a problem. An average man should drink at least 3.7 litres of water a day, while a woman should drink about 2.3 litres of water a day. We all know in reality very little people drink this much water, but try it and see what it does to your skin.

Do take a break from makeup

Don’t get us wrong, makeup isn’t bad for your skin but at some point, it does get a little challenging for your pores to breathe when they are covered with your liquid and powder foundations. Not only that, the more you see yourself without makeup, the happier you will feel with your natural face. This quarantine is the time for you to embrace your natural beauty. Let your skin shine!

Do get as much of sleep as possible

Make use of this quarantine and sleep your way to younger and healthier skin. The levels of the stress hormone cortisol falls when you are sleeping, hence repairing any daytime damage. Not only that, by sleeping, but your body also produces more collagen which minimizes and reduces your fine lines. Not only that, when you get adequate sleep, but you also tend to eliminate the chances of dark under eyes.

Don’t over-exfoliate

As we already have dry hands from washing them all the time, we do not need to do that to our faces as well. We understand that you have the time you did not have when you were working, but exfoliating your skin more often is not a good idea. The more your over-exfoliate, you tend to irritate your skin and you would strip your skin off it’s natural moisture and sebum.

Don’t over moisturise

Likewise, it is not the best idea to sit let your skin soak in a moisturising face mask all day. Just because you have additional time, that does not mean you need to pack your skin with the moisturising products you have not been using before the quarantine. Not only that, the excessive moisturising and hydration only makes your skin too oily and it can cause you breakouts.

Don’t keep touching your face

If you have nothing to do and get bored, or while you’re just watching TV, your hand automatically goes to your face. You either start picking your pimples or just rubbing your face. Well, you have to stop doing that. The more you pick, squeeze and poke your pimples, acne or bumps, you’re more prone to scarring and your acne becomes worse.

Don’t rely on face masks

Face masks are great when it comes to self-pampering yourself a couple of days in a week or even once a week. However, if you want to use facemasks daily or every alternate day, you have to stop! It is also advised by dermatologists that using a mask every day may not be the ideal thing to do and it might cause you breakouts. Save your masks for when you want to relax, because the more face masks do not mean better skin.

Don’t say no to antioxidants

Because you’re at home, you may think that you do not need to incorporate antioxidants into your skincare regime. However, you may be mistaken on that. Even if we are not exposed to the air and sun outside, we still do need to incorporate antioxidants in order to protect our skin from environmental stressors. Additionally, you need to be reminded that there is indoor pollution as well.
