Can we get a magician in here? Now for the grand finale…a disappearing act! Now you see it, and now you don’t. An invisible haircut is exactly what you need to get rid of all those long overgrown split ends. Even if you can’t go to a hair salon to get a haircut, the invisible haircut is perfect as it won’t be nearly as visible if you just grabbed a pair of scissors and chopped off a chunk of your hair. Of course with every snip, there is a risk you might mess up your hair! So, be sure to do a bunch of research and watch a ton of haircut videos before you commit to cutting your hair yourself. Therefore, Beauty Insider is here to give a little insight on what an invisible haircut is and how you can achieve it naturally.

Invisible Haircut

An invisible haircut is not what you think it is. It is definitely not cutting or trimming your hair with invisible scissors. Or, cutting off invisible hair. That’s not even possible. An invisible haircut refers to only trimming your split ends. In doing so, your whole haircut will still be intact and no one will be able to notice anything different from it. Thus, its name, the invisible haircut. Your split ends should also be trimmed regularly to prevent them from travelling up your hair shaft, and damaging the rest of it. Therefore, an invisible haircut is a great way for managing your haircut. It is also quite easy, so you can definitely do it by yourself at home! Saves you a trip to the hair salon during these times.

Although, the technique of an invisible haircut is not one size fits all. It would typically work best for those that have long hair, and aren’t looking to change the shape of their hair. The main goal of an invisible haircut is to improve and maintain the condition of your hair. That is why it would not be obvious at all to people if you do give your long hair an invisible haircut. Who can tell the difference if your haircut stays the same overall? Unless you have quite short hair, we doubt anybody will be asking if you’ve changed your hair anytime soon.

What You Need

When it comes to cutting and trimming your hair at home, you’ll need to at least have the basic hair cutting tools. Please don’t use craft scissors to cut your hair! Instead, invest in a good pair of hairdressing scissors. They can be fairly cheap on Shopee and Lazada and will be more effective than kitchen scissors. Since the circuit breaker, we’ve all pretty much learned how to be our own hairdressers. So, this purchase of yours, will not go to waste! Now, a tip for when you want to give yourself a haircut is to always have good lighting. The last thing you want is a surprise reveal of what you thought you gave yourself. Avoid dimly lit bathrooms and cutting your hair at night. Have a mirror in front of you as well so you can actually see what you’re cutting.

Another useful tip when cutting your own hair is to not to get too cocky and overconfident. Once you do, you might end up chopping more than you intended. It also sets your expectations higher than you’d like it to be. With an overconfident attitude, you may get disappointed by the end result or worse yet, ruin your haircut completely.

How To Give Yourself An Invisible Haircut

Now, here is a step-by-step guide on how you can give yourself an invisible haircut at home!

1. Wash Your Hair

The first step in preparing your hair for an invisible haircut is to wash and shampoo it as normal. You don’t need to use a conditioner at this stage as it would make your hair too smooth. When trimming split ends, you don’t want your hair to be too smooth as it would give you much more control as you trim the ends of your hair.

2. Blow-dry & Comb

You can exactly identify and trim split ends if your hair is still wet. So, make sure to blow-dry your hair after showering. You should also be blow-drying your hair with the hairdryer set on the cold setting. This prevents your hair from suffering any heat damage before trimming. After it is completely blown dry, comb through your hair with a wide-toothed comb. This helps prevent less breakage and static flyaways.

3. Look For Split Ends

So, how do you identify the split ends? There are a few ways, so you just have to find the method that is easiest for you! One way to spot split ends, is to twirl your hair around your fingers and run a finger up the length of it to reveal any split ends. Another method is to take a section of your hair, and weave it through your index, middle and ring fingers. Weave it so that your hair sits on top of your middle finger, and under your index and ring fingers. Now, slide your fingers down to the ends. Any small hairs that pop up are most likely split ends.

4. Trim The Split Ends

After you’ve found the best way to identify all your split ends, you simply just need to trim them! Snip off little by little with your hairdressing scissors and make sure not to go overboard with cutting. Just a little at a time, and repeat the process on all areas of your hair that you think need trimming. Light snips will do the trick as the goal isn’t to change your haircut at all. You’re just fixing it up!

5. Hair Mask & Conditioner

After you’re done trimming your hair, you’ll need to take good care of it so that it’s silky smooth! Use a hair mask or conditioner to help seal in any hair cuticles and prevent split ends from forming. After that, your hair will look as good as new! Well, to you at least. People will only notice that your hair is always in tip-top condition if you give yourself an invisible haircut.
