Pumpkins, jack-o’-lanterns, candles, banshee and witchcraft, doesn’t it remind you of something that chills down your spine? Indeed, we’re talking about Halloween. Honestly, it is our favourite celebration of the year (sorry and not sorry, Santa). Although you might not be able to fully celebrate Halloween this year due to certain limitations, it doesn’t mean that you should let this festive pass by. Besides, no one can give up the trick or treat tradition, right? Whether you’re celebrating with your loved ones or a virtual party through zoom, you gotta look horrifyingly good. It’s an unspoken culture to step up the game every year in terms of costume, makeup and hairdo. So, what’s better than spice things up with your frightening makeup look?

With the spooky season just around the corner, we at the Beauty Insider have been brainstorming all of the possible makeup ideas for Halloween. But one makeup that we keep coming back for is the spider web makeup. The fun part about this arachnid makeup is that anyone can create this look and you don’t necessarily have to own a bunch of Halloween makeup kits. It is also super versatile as you can pair it with blood-red lipstick or super thick eyeliner. Whenever you run out of ideas for Halloween makeup, simply opt for the spider web. Trust us, it doesn’t get any more spooky than this! Ahead, we have listed super easy steps on how to do spider web makeup. Gather all your stuff and channel your inner queen of horror.

We can’t emphasize enough the importance of primer. Trust us, without this babe, your makeup will be a horror story! Besides, all of your time and effort will be futile if the makeup doesn’t last until late at night. Simply prep your face by applying any makeup primer that you have. If you want to apply eyeshadow, make sure to do that once you have applied the primer before you proceed with the next step. Plus, we also have listed our favourite picks below!

3.Map the Design

Drawing a spiderweb can be quite tricky for a newbie unless you’re a pro at freestyle drawing. So, to make things easier you can map out the spider web design first for precision. Simply take a black eyeliner and create dots to signify the placement of the lines as well as the rhinestones. If you accidentally mess up a few dots, you can wipe it using micellar water or any makeup remover. We know that black may seem plain and boring for some people, hence you can add a splash of colours using bright shade eyeliners too.

One pro tip is that you need to take into account your eyes shape if you want to make them pop. People with hooded eyes should avoid placing rhinestones on the eyelids. On the contrary, those with more space around the eyelids should accessorize the centre part with rhinestones. However, do note that the placement of the gems and rhinestones is entirely up to your creativity. You can either go bold or simply opt for a few rhinestones only.

4.Connect the Webs

Okay, we’ve come to the best part! It’s time to connect these dots. Grab your eyeliner and draw the horizontal lines and curves to get that signature spider web look. If you’re unsure, we suggest that you draw five lines above and below the eyes, start from the eyelid and extend the lines above the brow. Make sure that both of the middle lines are extended longer than other lines. Next, draw a line on the centre part of the lash line and extend it towards the outer corner of the eyes. You can weave each of the main five strands with horizontal curves. If you want to make the lines last longer, you can retrace the lines again using a liquid eyeliner.

5.Glitzy Spidey!

Finally, finish your eye makeup by applying rhinestones or any cute stickers on the dots that you have created earlier. If you prefer a glitzy look, we recommend that you use sparkle eyeliner or eyeshadow to highlight the spider web more. Remember to apply a few coats of mascara and even fake lashes for that extra volume.
