Ice? Is this legit? Beauty vlogger Ashley Blue DeFrancesco posted a video to Instagram of her applying liquid foundation onto a big ice cube! Using ice cubes is ideal for rejuvenating a lacklustre appearance before a glamorous event, after a restless night from the office –  or if you’ve indulged in one too many cocktails over the weekend. But using an ice cube to elevate your makeup primer application? She might be onto something with this beauty trick.

With cooling face rollers to hundred dollar ice facials, ice therapy has been taking the beauty world by storm. It was just about time until someone turned to it for makeup. The beauty youtuber tried this inexpensive trick and her makeup does turn out smashing, but did the ice really play a part? We had to wonder as she is already a makeup guru— and this little trick may just be to get views and go viral.

An ice cube may not be the most thorough way to prime your skin before your foundation, although it’s arguably a fast (and free) way to get a sturdy canvas when you suddenly run out of your preferred primer.

Also noting the harsh weather, our skin is regularly exposed to harsh UV rays. A face massage with ice cubes can actually help provide quick relief and alleviate the heat from your irritated skin. Bonus: the ice cold temperature paves the way for better absorption of your skincare products, so your skin will soak up your favourite creams!

Whether or not this beauty trick is legit, there’s no denying that a little beauty magic already lies in our ice trays.
