There’s no shame in being a bride if you exceed the age of 40—whether you’re renewing your vows, a new bride or experiencing another round of marriage, hey, good for you. Afterall, ain’t that every woman dream to become the center of everyone’s attention in one day? Just look at Prince Charles goddaughter, the British designer, India Hicks. She recently got married to her long time partner, David Flint Wood at the age of 54. The mother of five finally became a first time bride after her partner of 26 years proposed to her. See, we told you that ain’t nothing wrong for being a bride at a certain age.

Anyway, this India Hicks—also served as one of Princess Diana’s bridesmaids or flower girls—chose to dorn in a simple, minimalist and Grace Kelly inspired wedding gown. During her chat with Vogue magazine, she said she tried to stay away from these ridiculous, over-the-top bridal looks that some bride chose to wear these days. While she looks absolutely splendid in Emilia Wicksten designs, India kept her makeup classical, minimal and fresh-looking. But out of all, her hair really became the centre of attention. She opted for a simple parted-hair look which swept into a long chignon, gently tucked underneath a see-through veil. She nailed the bridal look better than any youngsters out there. What? We just gotta say it, right?

However, when it comes to hair styling, it could be a little challenging especially for middle-aged brides. And with various options like tiaras, veils, crowns and hair-dos, which one would be suitable for the queen-of-the-day to grace the look perfectly? Not to worry, Beauty Insider literally loves to share some tips and tricks that we have learned for you to look and feel the best—especially for the bride-to-be. Here comes the bride~

Taking Care Of Your Hair

First step is to always come up with a tight routine when it comes to taking care of your hair. You will need to start working over time and investing in some good hair products at least a month before the big day. Switch up a bit and give your hair the tender, loving, care it deserves. Celebrity hairstylist, George Northwood, says as much as it is important for brides to be under 30 to look after their hair, brides above the age of 40 will have to work double shifts in implementing a good hair care routine. George said, ‘’As we tend to age and mature, so does our hair. If you notice, the older we get, the drier or oilier our scalp tends to be. So identify your scalp or hair problem quickly, so you can have them fix.’’ He suggested exfoliating your scalp once a week and using a hydrating hair mask up until the big day. Do not stop until you get the desired result. George also suggested for you to look for a high quality shampoo and conditioner that will definitely make a difference to your hair and scalp health altogether. There’s no wrong in wanting to look pretty during the big day, right? So make sure you do your research and find the perfect shampoo and conditioner that fits your hair concern.

Keep It Comfy

I know you want to look at the pretties on your wedding day, but make sure everything you wear, and every style you opt for is comfortable enough for you to make around and most importantly, comfortable enough to be yourself. That’s why it is vital for you to keep it natural as much as possible. Per George, he said, ‘’Make sure you embrace what you like for the best. If you like putting your hair up in a ponytail, make sure to find a hairstylist that will help you look confident at the same time creating a proper ponytail that is suitable for the bride—not the simple, boring, everyday ponytail you used to wear. Ask them for a glamour twist.’’ That way, not only do you feel comfortable and confident rocking your favourite hairstyles but make you look the best version of yourself. It’s like you’re crucially yourself but in a fantastic version. If you fancy different hairstyles that are out of your comfort zones, find something that will compliment your face and gowns. Because being the best version of yourself is more important than impressing the crowds.

Consider Wearing A Veil Or Tiaras

Listen, a good veil or tiaras will never go out of style. Hair accessories on your wedding day is always a good idea. This is why we suggest you keep your hair minimal and not-over-the-top because you will layer them with a good hair accessory at the end of the day. A see-through veil is very chic and elegant while simple tiaras scream bold and vigorous. The choice is yours. But make sure to have your hair stylist or bridesmaids around when you feel like removing your veil or tiaras so they can help with fixing your hair and not look like you just get down from a brazzy motorcycle ride. Here’s a trick, make sure your hairstylist carries a comb around the ceremony so whenever you need a quick fix, the savior is there.
